The Chi is leveling up. Three powerhouse women join Season 7 on Showtime—watch the teaser.

Showtime’s The Chi returns this May—and it’s bringing serious star power. Season seven will feature guest roles from Phylicia Rashad, Wendy Raquel Robinson, and Karrueche Tran. Created by Emmy winner Lena Waithe, the drama saw record-breaking growth last season, with streaming viewership up nearly 25% over the previous year.

The new season premieres for Paramount+ with Showtime subscribers on Friday, May 16, and will air on Showtime starting Sunday, May 18, at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Set in Chicago’s South Side, The Chi explores personal transformation, community, and survival with heart and grit.

Rashad will portray Renee, a rare voice of reason for Pastor Zeke. Robinson appears as Riley Dalton, a woman who’s experienced loss and now helps others navigate hardship. Tran steps in as Zuri, a character trying to repair her life but can’t seem to dodge trouble.

With Alicia now in charge, The Chi promises a season centered on the rising strength of its women. As alliances shift and rivalries intensify, characters are forced to fight for their place—emotionally, spiritually, and politically.

Returning cast members include Jacob Latimore, Yolonda Ross, Lynn Whitfield, and Luke James, with guest appearances from Kadeem Hardison, Vic Mensa, Jill Marie Jones, and more. The show remains a creative force with Waithe, Common, and Justin Hillian leading the production team, along with powerhouse producers behind Dope, The Neighborhood, and Selma.
