BronxArtSpace will host ¡Te Amo Porque S.O.S. Pueblo! from April 25 to May 25, 2025—a public art exhibition and immigrant portal organized by María Ponce, Marco Saavedra, and Blanka Amezkua. The title translates to “I love you because you are my people,” and that message runs throughout this unique gathering of artists and allies.
Opening night is set for Friday, April 25 from 5 to 8 p.m. The exhibit is free and open to the public during gallery hours: Thursdays and Fridays from 2 to 6 p.m. and Saturdays from 12 to 5 p.m.
This isn’t just an exhibition—it’s a space of connection, care, and solidarity. The featured artists arrived in the United States as undocumented minors or come from families that have crossed borders. Their names are not individually listed, honoring the personal journeys behind the work. Instead, the exhibition shines a collective light on themes of sanctuary, nourishment, memory, and spiritual resilience.
Programming includes a series of community events: legal guidance from the New York Legal Assistance Group, a cookbook presentation by Colectivo VOCES, and a closing celebration featuring poetry by Marco Nieto and Mixtec poet Nadia López García. Local favorite La Morada Restaurant will provide food at select events, deepening the communal spirit.
The organizers describe the exhibit as a response to fear and marginalization with an offering of love and community. In a letter shared with TalkTeaV, artist Blanka Amezkua wrote: “Despite what is happening, [immigrants] matter and deserve nothing less than our love and respect.”
¡Te Amo Porque S.O.S. Pueblo! is presented in collaboration with The Clemente Center’s Historias Sembradas and supported by organizations including Mixteca, CUNY Mexican Studies, the Ford Foundation, and Bronx Council on the Arts.
