As the colder months roll in, it’s not just trick-or-treaters that emerge; with the wave of new mystery and crime shows the season also brings out the crime buffs, whodunit fans, detective enthusiasts, and proud Sherlockians—armchair detectives like myself. For us, the fall season means fresh and exciting new crimes and mysteries to solve.

This November, Sharon D Clarke (Doctor Who), three-time Olivier award winner and Tony award nominee, leads the cast of Ellis, a gripping new detective drama premiering on Acorn TV in November.

In this three-part series, each two-hour episode features DCI Ellis arriving at a different local police station to tackle complex, unsolved cases. Alongside her partner, DS Harper (Andrew Gower, known for The Winter King, Carnival Row, and Outlander), Ellis must overcome the challenges of earning the trust of local detectives while working against the clock to secure justice.

As a Black female detective, Ellis faces significant obstacles in a predominantly white, male-dominated profession, but her commitment to justice remains unwavering.

Ellis is produced by Company Pictures with Northern Ireland Screen, commissioned by Catherine Mackin, Managing Director of Acorn Media Enterprises (AME). Executive producers include Mackin, Bea Tammer, Michele Buck, and Lucy Raffety, with Chris Martin as producer.

The series, written by Paul Logue and Sian Ejiwunmi-Le Berre, involves Channel 5's Sebastian Cardwell and Paul Testar, with international distribution by All3 Media International.
