My Adventures with Superman arrived, offering fans a fun, reimagined look at The Man Of Steel's origin story. The new animated series is more of a coming-of-age story, setting the stage for a different kind of narrative that explores the lives of Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and Jimmy Olsen as they head into the world with career goals in mind but end up uncovering a new future, filled with meta-humans, dangerous technology, and aliens.

"Where do you come from? How do your powers work? Who are you? What are you?" - Lois Lane

Ms. Lane, the truth is, I'm still piecing together who I am and what I can do. But at the end of the day, I'm here to help the people of Metropolis. That's what matters." - Superman.

I was instantly transported to the early 80s by episode three (Titled: My Interview With Superman) when Loise Lane finally gets her interview with Superman, just like in the Christopher Reeve and Margot Kidder 1978 film directed by Richard Donner. But again, where the story differs is Clark does not know who he is, so unlike the movie, Lois does not get much from the interview. And in an instant, with one sentence, like if riding a time-traveling roller coaster, you're reminded of that epic 1978 terrace moment when you hear, "I'm here to help the people of Metropolis."

Actually, in the movie on the terrace, Lois asks, "Why are you here? There must be a reason for you to be here," and Superman replies, "I'm here to fight for truth, justice, and the American way." The Metropolis answer is more inclusive, a much better answer because Superman is for all people.

The anime style used to create this new but familiar world resulted in bright, visually captivating scenes that added excitement to this rich new approach. The show successfully balances its fresh take with the fundamental truths of the main characters, providing a genuine depiction of Clark Kent's journey. The series is breathing new life into DCU content by focusing on the lives of those around Clark and the villains attached to the Superman mythos.

Jack Quaid's performance as Clark Kent/Superman embodies the essence of the character, and Alice Lee brings incredible energy to the role of Lois Lane, making her character perfect for the will-they-won't-they part of the story. Ishmel Sahid lends his voice to a more grown-up and funnier version of Jimmy Olsen, revitalizing the original character from the comic book.

The Daily Planet's star news team (dubbed The Scoop Troop) made had me thinking about Pokemon's Team Rocket. If team Scoop Troop is anything similar, we will get plenty of laughs from sports reporter Steve Lombard, gossip/human interest reporter Cat Grant, and investigative journalist Ronnie Troup, who does not quite fit in with the zaniness of the others on the team. It will be fun watching Scoop Troop go up against the energetic Lois and Jimmy.

"Our North Star was the 1978 “Superman: The Movie,” especially the interplay between the incredible Margot Kidder and Christopher Reeve. We loved their chemistry; we loved how smart and feisty Lois was, and loved the heart and altruism of Reeve’s Superman/Clark Kent. The movie was clever, fun, and modernized Superman in a way that felt organic to the time period, while also respectful of what came before. It truly is one of our favorite pieces of Superman media," said Co-Producer Josephine Campbell during an interview.

The series succeeds at pulling on the nostalgic heartstrings, but just as important, My Adventures With Superman also stands out as a great new original. Whether a longtime fan or a newcomer to the Superman lore, My Adventures with Superman is a must-watch animated series that combines the classic essence of Superman with a modern twist. Its heartfelt storytelling, dynamic characters, and captivating visuals make it a refreshing addition to the DC Universe.

You can watch the three current episodes on Adult Swim or available on Max the next day.
