DC Universe is buzzing with excitement as HBO gives the go-ahead for 'Lanterns,' marking a major milestone in the superhero universe. Against the backdrop of DC's growing cinematic universe, 'Lanterns' stands out as DC Studios' first live-action series, created exclusively under the guidance of James Gunn and Peter Safran.

The story centers on new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops, members of the Green Lantern Corps, tasked with defending the cosmos using rings that grant extraordinary abilities. The series explores their involvement in an earthly mystery following a murder in the heartland of America.

The eight-episode straight-to-series order will be spearheaded by acclaimed showrunner Chris Mundy, known for his work on "True Detective: Night Country" and "Ozark." Joining Mundy are Damon Lindelof (Watchmen) and Tom King (Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow), who will serve as executive producers and co-writers.

This new Green Lantern series is adding to the excitement fans are experiencing, with DC Studios recently releasing the second trailer for the eagerly awaited Penguin series starring Colin Farrell, depicting the Penguin's rise to power in Gotham's gritty underworld. Meanwhile, social media platforms erupted with excitement over set photos from James Gunn's upcoming "Superman," featuring David Corenswet as the iconic Man of Steel and Edi Gathegi dressed as Mister Terrific.
